MGM Resorts International is making moves to expand its presence in the world of slot machines and live dealer broadcasting. The company is aiming to bridge the gap between its online and land-based operations by developing its own products.
Bill Hornbuckle, the CEO and President of MGM, recently shared these plans at a conference session at London’s ICE VOX. The company’s online platforms, BetMGM and LeoVegas, have experienced rapid growth, and MGM further solidified its online presence with the acquisition of popular developer Push Gaming.
Hornbuckle explained that the purchase of Push Gaming was part of a strategy to create games for BetMGM and LeoVegas initially, with the eventual goal of integrating these games into MGM’s physical casino locations. The objective is to provide players with a consistent experience, whether they are at home or visiting one of MGM’s brick-and-mortar establishments, complete with the same jackpots and amenities available in Las Vegas.
In addition to game development, MGM also plans to follow the path of Evolution Gaming by creating live dealer and online game show concepts that will be broadcasted globally from their casinos. Furthermore, the company aims to collaborate with celebrities, giving players the opportunity to either play with them or simply watch.
The expansion extends beyond the realm of online gaming. MGM is set to embark on a new project in Osaka, Japan, with the construction of a resort expected to cost US$10 billion. The company also has plans to expand into the United Arab Emirates and Thailand in the Asian market.
Looking specifically at MGM’s Macau operations, Hornbuckle anticipates an annual gross gaming revenue (GGR) of between US$24 billion and US$26 billion, up from US$22.7 billion in 2023. Since 2022, MGM has added 200 new gaming tables to its Macau property.
Hornbuckle pointed out that MGM used the time during the COVID-19 pandemic to reposition its properties and casinos, resulting in a more favorable position with the departure of junket operatives.
Overall, MGM Resorts International is strategically positioning itself for expansion and innovation across both its online and land-based operations, aiming to create a seamless and engaging experience for players worldwide.
